What We Do

A Django Development Company, Not a Generalist Shop

AnvilEight is a Django development company in the literal sense: Django has been our primary framework since the company was founded in 2010. We design and build web applications, B2B SaaS platforms, REST and GraphQL APIs, e-commerce systems, and internal tools - all on Django, with React or Vue on the frontend where a rich UI is needed.

Working with a specialised Django agency means decisions are made by people who know the framework deeply. We structure projects around Django's strengths - the ORM, the admin, built-in security, and the mature ecosystem of Django Rest Framework, Celery, and Django-CMS - so you get to a working product faster and spend less on maintenance later. Our portfolio includes research platforms for universities, fintech scoring systems, logistics tools, and content platforms serving millions of page views.

Engagements are shaped around your situation. If you have a specification, we will quote a fixed budget - our preferred model - so you know the cost before work begins. If the scope is evolving, we offer time & materials at $55 per developer per hour, or a dedicated team that works as your remote engineering department. Every project ships with daily commits, bi-weekly Scrum releases, and a two-week bug resolution warranty after handover.

As a Ukraine-based company with over a decade of work for UK and European clients, we fit the procurement and contracting expectations of British and EU businesses while keeping the cost advantage of a Ukrainian engineering team.

Want to extend your own team instead of outsourcing the whole project? You can hire Django developers or hire Python developers individually, or read about our full Python & Django development services.

Services

Django Development Services We Provide

Most enquiries we get fall into one of four shapes. Each is a different kind of Django engagement, and each is priced differently.

  • New product builds. Greenfield Django applications, B2B SaaS platforms, and MVPs. If you have a specification, we quote a fixed budget so the cost is known before work starts. Yomdel began this way in 2014 as a six-month MVP.
  • Taking over an existing codebase. Django upgrades, dependency and Python-version migrations, performance work, and adding REST APIs to applications that never had them. This is the most common reason firms come to us.
  • Ongoing support and maintenance. A retained Django support agency for products already in production - security updates, framework upgrades, bug fixes, and incremental features on a monthly contract.
  • Dedicated Django developers. Engineers who work as your remote engineering department, in your process and your standups, at $55 per developer per hour.

If you are not sure which of these you need, describe the situation and we will tell you - including when the honest answer is that you do not need an agency at all.

Legacy Django

Inheriting a Django Project Someone Else Left Behind

A large share of our Django work is rescue work: a codebase built years ago by developers who have since moved on, pinned to a Django version that no longer receives security fixes, with a test suite that does not run. The instinct is to rewrite. It is usually the wrong call - a rewrite throws away years of encoded business rules that nobody has written down.

NewInBridge B.V., a Netherlands-based company, came to us with exactly this. Their uBid bridge-practice platform ran on Django 1.5, Tastypie, and Python 2.7. Previous developers had left inefficient database queries and architectural limits that blocked every new feature. Rather than restart, we modernised it in place - onto Django REST Framework and a current Python - fixed the performance problems, and rebuilt the iOS and Android apps on Swift and modern Android, then added the e-learning features the old architecture could not support.

That is the pattern: stabilise, upgrade incrementally, keep the product live throughout, and only replace the parts that genuinely cannot be saved.

Proof

An 11-Year Django Platform, Still Shipping

We built Yomdel's core lead-management platform from scratch on Django and have run it as their engineering partner ever since. What started in 2014 as a six-month MVP became an 11-year partnership powering the UK's leading estate-agency live-chat service:

  • 1,000+ UK estate agencies on one multi-tenant Django platform with complete data isolation.
  • 10,000+ leads every month routed to 600+ active agents in under three seconds, at 99% uptime.
  • 11 years of continuous delivery on Django, Django REST Framework, Celery, PostgreSQL, React, and multi-region AWS.

Yomdel is not the only long engagement. For nine years we have been the primary technical partner to a major international non-profit operating in 90+ countries, delivering 20+ mission-critical systems - healthcare delivery in Central Africa, logistics across remote regions - used by tens of thousands of people in places where connectivity cannot be assumed.

Choosing

A Django Agency, a Freelancer, or an In-House Hire?

These solve different problems, and the honest comparison matters more to us than winning every enquiry.

  • A freelancer is the cheapest way to get a well-specified, self-contained piece of work done. The risk is continuity: one person gets ill, takes another contract, or moves on, and the knowledge leaves with them. Much of our rescue work starts here.
  • An in-house hire is right once Django is core to your business and you have enough steady work to keep an engineer busy and supported. Below that threshold you are paying for idle capacity and a single point of failure.
  • A Django development firm makes sense when you want a team rather than a person - someone to own architecture, review each other's code, cover holidays, and still be there in three years. That is what an 11-year Yomdel partnership and a nine-year non-profit partnership actually look like.

On continuity, since UK and EU buyers ask and rarely say so out loud: we are based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and we have delivered without interruption throughout the war - distributed team, cloud infrastructure, EU backup capacity. We would rather you raise it now than quietly rule us out. Our working with AnvilEight page sets out how delivery, contracting, and continuity work in practice.

We are a Ukrainian company, not a UK one, and we do not claim otherwise. Clients contract with us from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and across the EU and US; we work a European timezone with 0-2 hours of UK overlap, invoice in GBP, EUR, or USD, and sign an NDA on request.

Process

How a Django Project Actually Runs Here

No discovery workshop invoice, no six-week inception phase. The sequence is short on purpose.

  • 1. A call, not a questionnaire. You describe what you are building and what is already in place. We ask the questions that change the estimate - existing data, integrations, compliance, who maintains it afterwards.
  • 2. A written quote. If the scope is clear, you get a fixed budget and we carry the estimation risk. If it genuinely is not clear, we say so and propose time & materials rather than invent a number we would need to renegotiate later.
  • 3. Delivery you can watch. Daily commits to a repository you own, bi-weekly Scrum releases, and a working URL early enough to change your mind while changing your mind is still cheap.
  • 4. Handover, then the part most agencies skip. Every project ships with a two-week bug-resolution warranty (longer on larger projects), and we stay available afterwards. Our longest Django partnership is in its eleventh year.

We take responsibility for the systems we build, which is easy to write on a website and only provable by staying long enough to be measured on whether the thing actually works. Our rates, including what a Django project typically costs, are published on the rates page rather than quoted on request.

Django development: FAQ

More questions? Contact us
What does a Django development company do?

A Django development company designs, builds, and maintains web applications on the Django framework - from product discovery and architecture through APIs, frontend integration, deployment, and ongoing support. AnvilEight covers this full cycle in-house.

How much does Django development cost?

Our standard rate is $55 per developer per hour. We prefer fixed-budget projects and provide a detailed quote after a short discovery call. Time & materials and ongoing support contracts are also available - see our prices.

Why choose Django for my product?

Django offers built-in authentication, admin, ORM, and security features that dramatically reduce time to market. It scales from MVP to high-traffic products - companies like Instagram and Mozilla run on Django.

Do you take over existing Django projects?

Yes - it is the most common reason clients come to us. We audit, upgrade, and extend existing Django codebases, including version migrations, performance work, and adding REST APIs with Django Rest Framework. We modernised NewInBridge's uBid platform in place from Django 1.5, Tastypie, and Python 2.7 onto Django REST Framework and a current Python, without a rewrite and without taking the product offline.

Can you rescue a legacy Django project without rewriting it?

Usually, yes. A rewrite discards years of business rules that are encoded in the code and written down nowhere else, so we prefer to stabilise the application, upgrade it incrementally while it stays live, and replace only the parts that genuinely cannot be saved. We start with an audit of the Django version, dependencies, test coverage, and the queries causing the worst performance.

Do you offer ongoing Django support and maintenance?

Yes. We act as a retained Django support agency for products already in production - security patches, Django and Python version upgrades, bug fixes, and incremental features on a monthly contract. Several of our support engagements have run for years; the longest is in its eleventh year.

Are you a UK Django agency?

No, and we do not claim to be. AnvilEight is a Ukrainian company headquartered in Kharkiv that has worked with UK and European clients since 2010. Clients contract with us from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and across the EU and US. We work a European timezone with 0-2 hours of UK overlap, invoice in GBP, EUR or USD, and sign an NDA on request.

Should I hire a Django agency, a freelancer, or an in-house developer?

A freelancer is the cheapest route for well-specified, self-contained work, but carries continuity risk when that person moves on. An in-house hire is right once Django is core to your business and there is enough steady work to keep an engineer busy. An agency makes sense when you want a team that owns architecture, reviews its own code, covers absence, and is still there in three years.

What guarantees do you provide?

Every project includes a two-week bug resolution warranty after handover (longer for larger projects), an NDA on request, and transparent delivery with daily commits and bi-weekly Scrum releases. See our warranty policies.
